Ted Turner's Birthday Book

     How do you say “Thank you!” for a $1 billion donation to your cause? When the United Nations Foundation wanted to thank Ted Turner for his, they chose an adapted Powell Leather  Photo Album within which they presented letters of thanks to him from their members. They purchased a Cognac Shoulder Leather Large Album, and their artwork was hand cut into its cover. Its black top loading page inserts were used as mats upon which the letters were mounted. The album was given to him on his 70th birthday. We not only make the best handmade leather books, we make the best birthday books too.

Photo Album Personalized

     For whatever you may be planning, we can personalize an album for you. If you are searching for an album that can be embossed, engraved, or stamped with your art on the cover you may want to consider the inlay method of personalization. The beauty of the inlay method is that much more freedom of design exists, and it will always be as beautiful as the day that it was created.

     We begin by examining your artwork, which may be emailed to us, or helping you to find a design which will suit your purpose. We then will create a mock up in Photoshop for your approval, and work with you until you’re satisfied with the design. The next step is to take the order.

     We use the art from the mock up to begin cutting your design, by hand, from the cover leather. The different color fields will be created by sewing the appropriate leather in behind the cover leather. Details may be created by using stitching for embellishment. The edges are all skived ( hand tapered ) to half their thickness to eliminate bulges and bumps. After cutting, the edges of the cut leather are colored to make the images are as clean and crisp as possible.

     Although this method is very time consuming and labor intensive, the finished product is much more impressive than any other method available. The work becomes unquestionably custom, and an inherent part of the photo album cover which will last the lifetime of the book.

Its two tubes accommodate a bottle of wine, a corkscrew, and two beautiful wine glasses which are included. The wine glassesmay be removed from the lower tube in order to stow a second bottle if you like, in which case cocktail glasses may be stowed over the tops of the bottles. The tote is constructed from handsome European  Shoulder Leather, and the interior is lined with 1/2″ wetsuit neoprene material, which insulates up to 4 hours and offers shock protection for your precious cargo. Its measurements are 91/2″ x 8″ which make it suitable for almost any occasion. This book is a great choice for birthdays, anniversaries, bar mitzfahs, baby or bridal showers, memorials, christenings, or any occasion for which a handsome guest register is needed. This book will easily accommodate 400 signatures, is refillable, and its pages may be personalized for any occasion by our graphic designer. The guestbook leather that we use is among the world’s finest, and is only available from one tannery in Spain. Every care is taken to assure that each book will be something special, within which to preserve your most important memories.
